But that is not the issue I was putting forth.  That issue is purely technocratic:  are Trump's policies on tariffs working as respects basic steel?  And if they are (or are not), whose ox is being gored?  Those are interesting issues, as it, in a microcosm, will also determine Trumpian policies on everything else, including the Oil Patch.  And right now, there is some evidence surfacing that Trump's tariffs are having an effect, that they are taking a bite out of dumped steel.  Does that mean that the policy has intellectual rigor?  Of course not.  Indeed, I would argue that nothing that Trump does has intellectual rigor.  But that is not the issue, nor the point; we are asking, what effect does the policy now have, and how do we predict that industry will accommodate the new policy? 

Ternium SA, through its subsidiaries, manufactures and processes various steel products in Mexico, Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, Bolivia, Uruguay, Brazil, the United States, Colombia, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua. It operates in two segments, Steel and Mining. The Steel segment offers steel products, including slabs, billets and round bars, hot-rolled coils and sheets, bars and stirrups, wire rods, cold-rolled coils and sheets, tin plates, hot dipped galvanized and electrogalvanized sheets and pre-painted sheets, steel pipes and tubular products, beams, and roll formed products, as well as other products, such as pig iron.

So the VW’s 175 mi to 300 mi estimate for the 48 kWh to 82 kWh packs seem competitive—perhaps a bit short for the 82 kWh pack, but again, we’ll have to see when the EPA figures come out how close those estimates are to reality.

Handling the waste and effluent streams is another factor to consider in determining the size or capacity of the unit. Permitting and code issues can place restrictions on the total quantity of hazardous materials that can be stored and used in a facility.
