In the scaleup of most towers, drums, vessels and heat exchangers, the basic rules of chemical engineering frequently apply. However, knowing the relative liquid densities, average droplet size and the viscosity of the continuous phase, Stokes’ law can be used to estimate the droplet settling rate that may lead to a more cost-effective design and practical solution.
