22 – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau praised the work of hundreds of peacekeepers during a surprise visit to Mali, West Africa, even as he defended his government’s refusal to extend their mission several months to help the United Nations. The visit to the hot, dusty UN camp in northern Mali was Trudeau’s first since 250 Canadian troops and eight helicopters arrived this summer to begin providing lifesaving medical evacuations for wounded UN peacekeepers and workers.

She redid the program’s website, developed outreach materials and created a strategy to reach property owners likely to need the funds.

26 – The family of billionaire philanthropists Barry and Honey Sherman offered up to $10 million for information that would solve the December 2017 killings of the Toronto couple. The reward was announced after their lawyer detailed what he described as major shortcomings of a Toronto police probe.

21 – U.S. President Donald Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty in Manhattan federal court to eight criminal charges including tax evasion and unlawful campaign contributions related to payments made to women who claim to have had affairs with Trump. The court appearance came on the same day that Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign manager, was found guilty on eight of 18 counts of tax and bank fraud.

7 – The Trudeau government announced new rules to make it tougher for federal prisoners serving lengthy sentences to be transferred to Indigenous healing lodges. The change followed a public outcry over the transfer of an Ontario woman, convicted in the 2009 murder of eight-year-old Tori Stafford of Woodstock, to a healing lodge in Saskatchewan from a traditional prison. Terry-Lynne McClintic was returned to prison after the changes were announced.

26 – The Toronto Blue Jays made the long-expected announcement that manager John Gibbons would not return for the 2019 season.
