India has slapped tariffs on welded stainless steel pipes and tubes from China and Vietnam for five years effective July 31, 2024 the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said. The countervailing duties, which range from 21.74%-29.88% for China and 10.33%-11.96% for Vietnam, resulted from investigations over alleged subsidized production and export of the products.
On April 21, 2025, the Revenue Department of the Indian Ministry of Finance issued Notice No. 01/2025 Customs (SG), accepting the preliminary positive determination of the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry's safeguard measures for imported Non Alloy and Alloy Steel Flat Products on March 18, 2024, and deciding to impose a temporary safeguard measure tax of 12% on the products involved, valid for 200 days; At the same time, a minimum CIF price is set for the products involved, with a minimum current price of 675-964 US dollars per ton. When the CIF import price of the products involved is higher than the corresponding minimum price, no temporary safeguard measures tax will be levied (see the original announcement for details). The Indian customs codes for the products involved are 7208, 7209, 7210, 7211, 7212, 7225, and 7226. The measures shall come into effect from the date of announcement.
